The dilute solutions of methyl ethyl ketone peroxide is used in industry and by hobbyists as a catalyst which initiates the crosslinking of unsaturated polyester resins used in fiberglass and casting. It is used as a solvent for nitrocellulose, acrylic, and vinyl surface coatings due to its low-boiling point.
