Mammals including humans have a limited range of wavelength to see things. It is visible light in the wavelength of a rainbow. However, infrared rays (IR) that have longer wavelength are also present around us. Objects, animals, and people also have the ability to emit infrared rays. A group of scientists from have discovered a technique that gives night vision to humans without any significant side effects, for 8-10 weeks. The research are from the University of Science and Technology of China, University of Massachusetts Medical School, the China’s Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligence Technology.
Researchers working on advanced nanotechnology are developing something that was impossible so far. They are developing an injection to enable mammals to see beyond white light in the dark. This study presents various opportunities to the future therapeutic interventions. Scientists injected a dose of nano-antennae in the eyes, which gave mammals the ability to see the near-infrared wavelengths during day and night.
The eyes of mammals can see only a small range of wavelength. Usually, it is between 400 to 700 nm. However, the full spectrum is much broader, and at the end of it is infrared light.
Night Vision Goggles Fail to Serve Purpose in Daylight
It is difficult for mammals to see infrared light. Night vision goggles enable the person to see them, however, it is not very convenient. Moreover, these goggles fail to work in bright daylights.
Recently, scientists at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Boston and University of Science and Technology of China began researching for the methods to improve vision in humans and other mammals in near infrared radiation wavelength, without using any wearable technology.
This is mainly focused on embedding nano-particles with the biological frameworks. By inserting tiny sensors into the tissues of a living being, it is expected to impart new desired properties.
